Overview

Shopping Visibility tracks how your brand appears when users ask AI chatbots for shopping advice, product recommendations, and purchase comparisons. As AI increasingly influences buying decisions, understanding your brand's position in AI shopping responses is critical for e-commerce and product businesses.

What Is a Shopping Query?

The system identifies shopping queries using keyword detection. A prompt is classified as shopping-related when it contains 2 or more shopping keywords:

buy, purchase, price, best, compare, review, rating, deal, discount, cheap, affordable, premium, shop, product

You can also explicitly mark prompts with type shopping for guaranteed inclusion.

  • "What is the best laptop to buy in 2025?"
  • "Compare iPhone 16 vs Samsung Galaxy S25"
  • "Best affordable wireless headphones under $100"
  • "Which running shoes are best for marathon training?"

Key Metrics

Mention Rate

The percentage of shopping queries where your brand is mentioned. Higher is better.

≥50%Strong presence — AI frequently recommends your brand
25–49%Moderate presence — room for improvement
<25%Low presence — significant optimization needed

Average Position

Your typical ranking when AI lists product recommendations:

  • 1st — Your brand is mentioned first (best position)
  • Top 3 — Mentioned in the first three recommendations
  • Below 3 — Mentioned but not prominently positioned
  • Not mentioned — Your brand wasn't included

Price Accuracy

How often AI models cite correct pricing for your products. Compared against your Brand Facts with a 10% tolerance. High price accuracy builds consumer trust.

Citation Rate

The percentage of brand mentions that include links or citations to your website. Citations drive direct traffic from AI shopping interactions.

Shopping Sentiment

How AI describes your products in shopping contexts:

  • Positive — Recommends, praises, or highlights strengths
  • Neutral — Mentions without strong opinion
  • Negative — Notes drawbacks, criticisms, or disadvantages

Competitor Analysis

Which competitors appear alongside your brand in shopping queries:

  • Mention count — How often each competitor appears
  • Average position — Their typical ranking
  • Price mentions — How often their pricing is shown

How to Set Up

  1. Create shopping prompts — Write prompts that mimic how shoppers ask AI for advice.
  2. Include comparison prompts — "Compare [your brand] vs [competitor] for [use case]"
  3. Add pricing to Brand Facts — Go to Settings → Brand Facts and add price or pricing entries so the system can verify price accuracy.
  4. Capture snapshots — The system automatically identifies shopping queries.
  5. Visit Shopping Visibility — Navigate from the sidebar to see results.

Optimization Tips

  • Publish accurate pricing — Ensure current pricing is publicly available on your website with Product schema markup.
  • Maintain product pages — Up-to-date specs, availability, and pricing in structured data.
  • Encourage reviews — AI models weight third-party endorsements heavily in shopping contexts.
  • Create comparison content — Publish honest comparison pages on your own site to influence AI training data.
  • Monitor competitors — Track which competitors outrank you and study their content strategies.
  • Optimize for citations — Clear, linkable product pages with unique URLs improve citation rates.

Position Distribution

The Shopping Visibility page shows a position distribution chart breaking down what percentage of shopping queries place your brand in each position bucket. This helps you understand not just your average position but the distribution.
