AEO Tools Comparison
How AEO Optima compares to other AI visibility and answer engine optimization platforms — Profound, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Otterly.ai, Peec AI, SEMrush AI Toolkit, Ahrefs Brand Radar, and more.
The AEO Tool Landscape
Answer Engine Optimization is a young, fast-moving category. As of April 2026 the landscape breaks into five distinct camps — each optimized for a different job, and each with a different ceiling. This page lays out what AEO Optima does, what the others do, and where the boundaries actually are.
We've verified every claim on this page against each competitor's live public pages. We don't claim uniqueness where a peer already ships the feature. Where a capability is table-stakes across the category, we say so.
The Five Camps
- Full-stack AEO platforms — monitoring + intelligence + recommendations + execution tracking. AEO Optima sits here.
- AI search analytics tools — Profound, AthenaHQ, Peec AI, Otterly.ai. Strong dashboards and competitor benchmarking; typically stop at analytics.
- Content delivery + monitoring hybrids — Scrunch AI. Adds AI-agent content delivery on top of monitoring.
- Bolt-on AI modules — SEMrush AI Toolkit, Ahrefs Brand Radar. AI visibility as one feature inside a larger SEO suite.
- Free graders and agencies — HubSpot AI Search Grader (lead-gen tool), Graphite (managed services). Not direct SaaS peers.

"Not public" means we couldn't verify the capability on the vendor's live public site as of 2026-04-23. It does not necessarily mean the feature doesn't exist.
Where the Boundaries Are
What everyone does (table stakes)
Multi-model tracking, mention detection, basic sentiment analysis, and competitor benchmarking are now table stakes across the category. Ahrefs and SEMrush have folded this into their existing SEO suites, and every dedicated AEO tool ships it out of the box. If a vendor is charging enterprise prices for just these capabilities, they're charging for dashboards. This is the starting point, not the destination.
What most AEO platforms add
Profound, AthenaHQ, Peec AI, and Scrunch AI go further than the SEO bolt-ons with deeper brand analytics, share-of-voice calculations, and recommendation surfaces. That's the current median for the category. You'll know you're in this layer when you see dashboards with drill-downs, recommendation lists, and model-by-model breakdowns — but no clear path from "here's what's wrong" to "here's what I did about it and here's what it changed."
Where AEO Optima draws a different line
AEO Optima treats AI visibility as a measured discipline, not a reporting surface. Three commitments make this concrete:
-
Scores over signals. Six proprietary intelligence scores (BNCI, CMCS, MEI, SDI, CIPS, ETAS) each measure a distinct dimension of AI visibility. Together they answer why your visibility changed, not just that it did. No competitor publishes an equivalent named framework.
-
Computation over correlation. Five computation engines produce first-principles explanations: citation impact attribution correlates citation shifts with visibility changes; competitor trajectory runs linear regression with R² confidence; prompt decomposition identifies weak prompts with projected lift; error root cause traces accuracy failures; leading indicators find cross-metric time-lagged signals. This goes beyond "visibility went down 3%" into "visibility went down because prompts X, Y, Z lost citation from source A, which your competitor now dominates."
-
Verified outcomes, not recommendations. Most platforms suggest things to do. AEO Optima tracks each recommendation as an action, captures a follow-up snapshot after you implement it, and measures the actual lift. Over time the platform learns which action types produce the best results for your specific brand and category — a feedback loop that makes each optimization cycle more effective than the last. We've verified this capability is not publicly documented by any competitor we reviewed.
Where we don't claim uniqueness
Some features overlap with specific competitors, and we note them explicitly so you can make an informed choice:
- Content delivery to AI agents. Scrunch AI also ships content delivery capabilities. Our Edge Delivery module covers this, but it's one of many features, not a defining capability.
- Forecasting in general. Some competitors surface trend projections. Our claim is statistically rigorous — Holt-Winters ensemble, bootstrap 95% prediction intervals, Bonferroni-corrected anomaly detection. Rigor is the difference, not the existence of forecasting.
- AI visibility tracking. Ahrefs Brand Radar and SEMrush AI Toolkit cover mention tracking alongside their SEO core. If you already live inside one of those suites and only need basic AI visibility, the bolt-on may be sufficient. Our case for a dedicated platform rests on depth: intelligence scores, computation engines, goals, verification, MCP, webhooks, and reports.
Built For Openness, Not Lock-in
Three architectural decisions set AEO Optima apart from competitors that treat their dashboards as the product:
MCP (Model Context Protocol) — 74 tools
AEO Optima is the only AEO platform with a public MCP server. Any AI assistant that supports MCP — Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, Windsurf, Gemini, Amazon Q, and more — can directly query your visibility data, run analytics, capture snapshots, and generate reports. Your team uses AEO intelligence from the tools they already have open. See MCP integration reference.
Webhooks — 11 signed event types
Eleven event types (snapshot.completed, alert.triggered, visibility.changed, geo_audit.completed, report.generated, report.shared, subscription.changed, goal.created, goal.at_risk, insight.generated, action.verified) fire with HMAC-SHA256-signed payloads, exponential-backoff retry (3 attempts), and a circuit breaker that auto-disables endpoints after 5 consecutive failures. Build custom automations triggered by changes in your AI visibility. See webhook integration reference.
Reporting that Carries Conviction
25-section intelligence reports
Reports include intelligence scores, visibility trends, model-by-model breakdowns, competitive positioning, sentiment analysis, citation sources, action efficacy tracking, forecasts with confidence intervals, and recommended next steps. Available as PDF, Excel, Slides, and HTML. Shareable links support access controls, expiration dates, and view tracking. No competitor we reviewed publishes an equivalent report depth.
Goal tracking with milestone verification
Set specific visibility targets — "reach 60% mention rate for non-branded prompts by Q3" — and track progress with milestone markers and pace indicators. Know at any point whether you are on track, ahead, or falling behind, and which specific actions are moving the needle.
Action efficacy learning
Every recommended optimization is tracked through its lifecycle: recommendation, implementation, and impact measurement. AEO Optima correlates actions with visibility changes to build an evidence base of what works for your brand and category. This transforms AEO from guesswork into a data-driven discipline.
How to Choose
If you need…
- A free one-time grade → HubSpot AI Search Grader
- AI visibility as a bolt-on inside an existing SEO suite → Ahrefs Brand Radar or SEMrush AI Toolkit
- Dashboards and competitor benchmarking, nothing deeper → Peec AI or Otterly.ai
- Enterprise-grade AI search analytics with a sales-led relationship → Profound or AthenaHQ
- A managed service (not a tool) → Graphite
- A measured AEO discipline — scores, computation engines, goals, action verification, MCP, webhooks → AEO Optima
